Default cold starting procedure

My bike hadn't run in about 2 days. Went outside this morning and I had a hell of a time getting it started. Took a solid minute of non-stop cranking with the choke full out. Finally kicked over and ran fine. It was about 60 outside. This can't be good on the starter can it, and how am I gonna get it started when it gets even colder? 06 883l by the way.

I would start with the spark plugs. Have you pulled them yet?

No, so this is not normal? It has never given me any trouble before. Usually it barely cranks and then its running. When I got off today it started up just fine.

A couple of twists of the throttle pull the choke out full and crank it over, usually fires right up, sometimes a little longer if it has sat for a week or so. After the motor is running shut the choke and use the throttle lock to keep the RPMs between 1500 and 1750 or so. Do a walk around, check tire pressure, gear up and ride. She's usually warmed up by then. Oh, this is on an '03 1200C carb model.

not even my old *** bike starts like that. above 50 degrees i dont even have to use the choke, just hold throttle VERY slightly open and tap the starter, starts right up, no extended cranking.

I would check your plugs and run a can of seafoam through the engine.

AK, has you covered. Pumping the gas to prime it usually does the trick....As for a can of Seafoam....Skip it. A miracle in a can, it is not.

Like AKsavage said, flick the throttle a couple times, full choke(enrichener), hit the button she should fire up.
