Default Anyone else's 883...

feel really slow off the line as soon as the clutch is let out?

With my bike at least I have to twist and slowly let out the clutch or else it sounds like its lugging. It feels like it wants to go fast but as soon as I get to the point in first gear where the clutch is fully engaged, twisting just seems to make more noise rather than move the bike.

Is this just 883syndrome?

Wow, I sure don't have that problem with mine. She's pretty quick, enough so that I've hit the rev limiter a few times in first.

At around 15-20 mph my bike gets really loud and it barely moves. With the sound its making you'd think I'd be flying down the road. I wonder if its a problem.

No. Mine's pretty quick off the line. But it does have all the stage 1 done to it.

My 00 883 seems to like me to ride the clutch into first gear a bit, I would say that if I drop it too quickly, it lugs pretty bad, but It doesnt seem to be a problem or anything.

At what speeds do you normally shift?

you should NOT be shifting to 2nd until at LEAST 20mph. I'd push it to about 25 and your golden.

25 hmm. I do feel like first gear is a wasted gear on my bike, I'll try it. Just seemed to me the bike was very loud at about 20 and when I shifted it gave that decel sound so I figured that was the right shift point.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I also remember every time I shift into 2nd the engine sounds like its lugging a little bit even at 20mph. I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

on an 883? IDK. The good ol book says 15 (I realize that shifting speeds in manuals are usually low). I do usually push it to about 20, but at that point its making some noise and reving decently high. I think 25 would be akward but Ill try it too.

The motor likes to be revved. I CANNOT shift into 2d on my 1200 at 15. 20-25 seems about right on the 883. Shift into second, then let out the clutch quickly but smoothly and deliberately, while twisting throttle...also smoothly and deliberately.

Also try hitting the rev limiter a couple of times. That'll let you know the general ballpark where you can shift from 1st to second without lugging the engine. For example, on my '07 1200, I used to shift at around 20 but no more than 25. I was sometimes lugging in 2d. Once I discovered I can go 35 mph in 1st before hitting the rev limiter, I now shift between 25 and 30. The motor seems much happier that way and it doesn't sound like I'm revving "too much", because I now know what too much sounds like. Sorta make sense?
