The syn3 is good stuff but not a full synthetic, mobil 1 and amsoil are another good choice, i use the syn3 myself, but friends run amsoil and their temps seem to run at least 5 degrees cooler, either way its all better than conventional.

The SE works well enough...although come summer time I do have problems with it from time to time, but I live in AZ where it's hotter than the 7th circle of HELL, so the heat is pretty extreme. You should be fine with the SE if that's what you wanna run.

I'm also here in the sand-filled convection oven they call Arizona, and I am looking to change my oil here in the next week. What oil do you recommend for this heat-trap.

Amsoil will take the heat from what I hear....but I honestly just up the interval in the summer and stick with the SE. It breaks down, sure, but I change it out every 1500-ish during the summer months and the filter every other. I also make it a point to use RevTech primary fluid....it's not highly viscous, and it's not syn to my knowledge, but it's a great improvement over the regular HD primary oil and I have zero issues with it in the heat. Now that summer is finally ending, I've started going back to my normal time intervals for changes, but I just stick to the same stuff.

I went to dealer and bought syn3 just like HD recommends. Save receipts and keep good records just in case of warranty issues.

I am also in the Valley of the SUN!!! I starting Mobil 1 15-50 and 75-90 Gear oil. It seems to run cooler 10-15 degrees. I do change oil every 1000 miles and gear lub every other time and new filter every time. I feel not changine the filter is like taken a bath and not changing your underwhere.

amsoil or redline proly the best, i would add an oil cooler, amsoil meets all harley specs for warranty purposes, better oil for less money, a no brainer

I've been using oil from Klotz racing oils specificlly made for American V-twin's

I have been real happy with it. in the summer heat try straight 60W , 20-50 the rest of the time
