Default oil thingy

Has anyone removed the grey trim around where the dipstick is on their nightster,I want to remove mine and spray it but am worried it might not go back on,any suggestions?

Yeah,if it ain't broke don't fix it.I've learned that little lesson over and over.

Not a Nightster, but...

Yeah the two "leg" things broke off, but it stays in place.

Piece of cake, take out the dipstick and take off the side cover. You don't need tools just flex it off its mounts. Then you will see the bezel comes off it is attached with a slip-nut like thing pry it off with a screwdriver.

You could always re-attach it with a couple of dabs of silicone if the tabs break during removal.

Yep. Like I mentioned in my post above, both of the mounts broke off of mine while prying the little lock washer-like things off. I did not use any adhesive to put it back on. The friction of the legs in the holes hold it pretty well. It can't come off as long as the dipstick is in place. Over 2K miles like that and it is not even loose.
