The 2 nuts that hold the exhaust bracket to the engine fell off, and the bracket is just hanging there rattling. I figured that the nut size was 5/16"-18 ... but it only goes on about 1/2 a turn. Is this a 5/16"-24 ... or an 8mm ???? Any one know ?? "Thanks" !!
Not sure on the thread size, but lots of stuff comes loose on these things. it's a good idea to spend a afternoon in the garage every now and again going over stuff. over time you'll see what you gotta watch for.
Just had this happen 2 days ago. The nuts are 5/16-24. Pick up some 5/16 internal star washers while you're at it and install them under the nuts. Torque to 120 INCH pounds (not the 96-120 range the service manual lists) and they wont come off again. There is no need to use loctite on these as the high temps on the studs will break down the loctite anyway.

5/16-24. Keep a couple in your tool kit with the spare fuses and bulbs, you'll need them.
I've lost so many of those damn things I quit waiting for the engine to cool down.
Yes, I torque to 120 and use lock washers and all that crap.
