Which ones to use or not is the question? Do you guys use a Harley Davidson additive or do you use what you would find at Wal-Mart. I'm currently looking at a bottle of STA-BIL fuel stabilizer I bought at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago that I use as one of my winterization steps for my lawn mowers, roto tiller and other yard machines. I was wondering if this is safe to use in my scoot or not.
Why winterize? I live in NE Ohio.It gets 10 below here.My bike has always been in an unheated garage.I have never used any gas additives, battery tenders,or any kind of winterizing. The only thing I have ever done is; I go out and start my bike every 2-3 weeks during the winter.I let it run for 20-45 minutes.
And then when it's 50 in January I go out riding. And I am still running the original stock Harley battery.
Unless you live in Alaska,or you only carry insurance for 6-8 months, there is no reason to winterize.IMO
Nothing wrong with Sta-bil. I have been using it in everything with a piston since Shep was a pup. I do make sure the fuel tank is full of fuel before I store them because that will prevent condensation to form in the tank. Good stuff. Haven't tried it over ice yet but may give it a try if they don't quit raising the price of Old Stab And Kill.
STA-BIL. Why pay for the overpriced, (probably) Citgo produced garbage at the Stealer? If I ever use any of HD's lubricants in my bike I hope I get struck by lightning since I'd rather **** in any of the fluid reservors than use any Citgo product.

You are doing more harm than good by starting it up and not riding it, too. The best thing to do is just let the bike sit until your ride it. Letting an aircooled engine idle for 20-45 minutes does it no favors. You aren't running it enough to recharge the battery. You are fouling your oil and not burning off the contaminents, because you never get the oil up to operating temp.

That what I would like to do this winter as well in the Northeast. This is my first winter with a ride in 25 years.
However, I was told that the battery does not charge unless you ride at least 20min.
Without a tender, you won't have any battery - correct ?
I've convinced my wife that cold weather KILLS bikes, and she lets me store the scoot in the living room; kind of like a modern day art work. She also likes the smell of spent fuel, so the bike gets fired once or twice a month while inside.
