Default Rust on Chrome

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum. I am 59 years old and have not riden a bike in about 20 years. My question to the group is that I have a lot of surface rust on the chrome of my bike. Does anyone have a good suggestion on how to remove this rust i.e. chemical etc.

Thanks

neverdull works great... but i am a huge fan of 00000 steel wool and some metal polish... works great, would blow your mind what it will do!

Thanks a lot. I just purchased a used 2006 Sportster 883 XL with 2070 miles on it and a rust on "little" rust spots.

An old rust remedy that I've used for about 40 years is simply some aluminum foil. I tear off a sheet and bunch it up a little to form a pad. Then go after the rust. Be sure to use a good chrome polish to finish it off or the rust will re-appear. Probably a little less abrasive than 00000 steel wool but more than abrasive enough for surface rust and minor pitting on chrome. If you don't have any 00000 steel wool give the foil a try.

Right on on the aluminum foil, and lubricate it with Coke (even Diet Coke). The ol' oven cleaner does its stuff on the rust too.

Thanks a lot guys. I did not know about the aluminum foil and I had forgotten cola being a cleaner. I am going to start on this project tomorrow and I am sure it will take a lot of "elbow grease".

Thanks again
Doug
