I'm seriously thinking about making an offer on a left over 2008 orange and black Nightster when I go to Florida in April. That is if they are still there after bike week. My father-in-law said they are asking $9,800 on the two they have. I'd like your thoughts on how low I should go? I was thinking off coming in with an initial offer of $8,800 or $9,000.
Next question is about parts.
I'm going to do black sideshots, PC III, SE A/C kit, Mini Apes, Forwards, and a rack on the rear fender. Pricing all that out came to roughly $2,000. I saw on another thread that people were making offers on new bikes with 20% off the parts. Figure that's fair since a lot of dealers give 20% off parts for a month or two after purchase. So that comes to about $1600 for parts.
Would I be laughed out the door to make an offer on a left over 2008 N for $10,600 or maybe $11,000? That would be an OTD offer. My local dealer wants almost $13,000 for the same setup on an 09 plus tax, tags, etc. Haven't made an offer with them yet as I wanted to see what you guys think is a realistic offer to make.
I'm not too good at haggling prices. At least when it came to buying my Nightster. Everything was kinda hazy, I don't even remember the price. I just remember thanking them profusely for allowing me to ride away from their shop on a Nightster. And I'm still grinning.
Maybe I'm on crack? LOL I can't see spending $13,000 plus tax, tags, shipping, and dealer fees when I could have an 09 Street Bob for less than that. Granted I want the Nightster with all the trimmings added but not if it means paying more than a Dyna. Guess it's worth a shot but I might be laughed at?
Yeah, Man O War knows the deal. My plan is that since I think their offer is way too high, make them an offer that's too low and see if I can get them to a price that I think is reasonable. Guess I'll make them that low offer and see where it goes. Just wanted to see if I was on crack with my thinking....
Steve, was that black or a two tone? The local dealer sold my friend an 08 night train back in June for more than 1k under msrp. I think he may have also knocked off dealer prep. That was a current year model and before the big down turn in the economy. Does anyone following this know what a dealer pays for a Nightster? How much do they mark up their accessories? I'd think that if they'd still be making money plus knowing that they're probably going to make more money from me in the future for little items, maybe they'll come down. Dunno, just trying to out smart them I guess. LOL
I paid about 10,500 for mine last year. After all the upgrades, it was just under 13,000 when all was said and done. Worth it in my opinion. In my neck of the woods, dyna's start at 13,400 not including set up and taxes. Some dealers may be more flexible if there is competition. The key word in MSRP is SUGGESTED.
