i put a new spring on it, which helped for a second, but as soon as i hit my first hard set of turns (and dragged it a little) it's back to drooping down. Is there anything i can do? Like i know, raise the bike, that's not happening, i just bought the 11" progressives.... are there any aftermarket kickstands, etc to help?
I think it can be modified slightly to fit. It's worth it though if your bike sits low...trust me. The way lowered bikes sit with the stock stand, it don't take much at all to knock em over.
See that bike I'm stunting on in the upper left corner of this post? It's a Yamaha SRX-6, which comes with a lousy kickstand. Fortunately, one from a Honda 500 Interceptor worked great, with a little modding!
It seems the makers are paranoid about people riding off with the kickstand down and this causing 'em to fall down, somehow. So their remedy is to make kickstands that allow the bike to fall over, before you even got on it!
To me, that means we've got permission to use whatever works!
My 2000 had a kickstand dragging problem. Replaced the kick stand bushings, and all was well for another year or 2. I think I might need them again. I dunno is if the rubber mounts use a diffrent system.....
No a softail jiffy stand will not work. It is totally different. A 2000 Sportster also has a different jiffy stand. They changed them in 04. I have a Nightster and I drag the jiffy stand on the ground constantly. I have no problem with mine. Maybe you damaged the jiffy stand itself?
funny I found this post....because the jiffy stand fell off when i was leaving the gas station today......The cotter pin that held the pivot pin in looks as if it sheered off, and let the pin drop when I went to leave. Lucky a dude on a Ducati 900 was waiting for my pump, and helped me hold up the Sporty while I finished yanking the stand off.
On a side note that damned Ducati 900 sounded like a Big Block Chevy with a wicked cam. First crotch rocket that I really liked the sound of!!!!!!
I have lowered the rear end on my '95 Sporty with Progressive shocks and constantly drag the kickstand on LH corners (held up with a bungee no problem but it looks naff).
A new spring did not help so I have ordered a replacement pivot pin - and a new shorter sidestand!
