Default Resale values of 1200 Custom?

I am thinking Kelley Blue Book is off with their figures with the current economy, 06 Sportster 1200 Custom retail is $8200 and trade-in is just under $6000.

What are you seeing on bike prices? I am going to try and sell my 2006 Sportster 1200 Custom and I am having a heck of a time figuring a price. I have put a lot of money in her and taken good care, but I don't think I will get what I need to out of it. I am thinking $7000, what do ya'll think?

I kept most of the original parts; intake, exhaust system, handlebars, pegs. Do the add-on parts add value or should I strip it back down close to stock and sell the parts seperate?

-2 tone paint scheme with embedded Harley logo on tank
-Vance & Hines Short Shot exhaust
-HD Heavy breather intake with rain cover
-Chrome HD logo front and rear foot pegs
-Chrome flame hand-grips
-Upgraded high output horn
-Flying wing horn cover
-Chrome brake line & clutch cable
-Skulls collection covers here and there
-Quick detachable sissy bar
-Higher handlebars, puts your hands slightly under shoulder high
-HD Security system with alarm and 2 FOBs
-Temp guage oil dipstick

i think it depends on who you are trying to sell it too. I know a dealership for sure wont take any extras into consideration. A private buyer on the other hand might look at it as saving money on extras. its all about finding the right buyer IMO

It all depends on what the market will tolerate. I don't feel your price is unreasonable, but with current economic conditions, what it's worth and what you can get could be two different things. With dealers desperately trying to sell bikes, a new Sportster can sell for not much more than your asking price. Granted, a new one won't have all the details you did to it, but someone might sacrifice that for a new bike with no miles and a warranty. Try to sell it for $7000, but if no one bites you may need to lower your price or wait till things turn around, but who knows how long that will take....Just my .02. Good Luck

I agree,I know when I'm looking for a used bike I don't like to pay more than the trade in value or a little over . It might take a while to find one at that price but you usually do.

7,000? seems fair considering the upgrades... but then i know enough to appreciate what im lookin at.... others maybe not... but truthfully, if i was lookin for a sporty, i would look far and wide for the absolute best deal and right now there are PLENTY to be had, ... i see them everywhere for sale... seems like there are a lot of decent low milage sportsters for around 5,000 and some even less, with mods and all... fortunately, there are also LOTS of people buying up them sporties, so there should be good demand for parts... you can make a few bucks sellin off the spare parts, even good stock parts have some demand... have to agree with congo, right buyer makes all the difference...

Sold my 2007 1200L in October (before TMC announced the buy back program).
Bike was in excellent condition, never down and had 7200 miles.
Quick release windshield
Highway pegs
Sissy bar and pad
Saddle bag supports
****ty aftermarket saddle bags

Started at $8000 and took $7200 (this was the only offer I received).

Back in February a guy in my area was selling a very clean 2007 1200 Custom
with 6,000 miles on it, HD removable windshield, short sissy and luggage rack,
complete maintenance records, etc. for $8,500. As of Monday he was down to
$7,200 and I'd guess that he'd jump on $7k.

I looked at it in March when he was asking $8k and decided to just buy a new one.
There haven't been many Sportsters for sale here except through the dealer
and his prices were so high that there was little incentive to buy a used bike.
Lots and lots of BTs out here, but relatively few Sportsters.

You should be using NADA.com actually. Low price is listed at $6600, and high price is $7600. http://www.nadaguides.com/default.as...3&gc=MC&gtc=MC

recently the dealer gave me 7500$ ( that's canadian dollars...u do the math.)
for my '05 Sportster Custom 1200 with 66K kms. ... in 'mint' condition.

and they didn't take me on the bike I was buying because I checked the blue book value and they were right on market prices.

That looks more in line. Got to do some figuring and see what I can loose in it and still be happy or if it is better just sitting in my shop collecting dust for a few years.
