after seeing a few threads having to do with oil...
I checked mine yesterday and if I'm reading it right it's a quart short after being serviced roughly 3wks ago. Does that seem normal?
I rode home from work about 10miles and checked it while still running, on the jiffy stand and when I pulled out the stick it had froath or foam all over it. Is this normal as well? It runs perfect no smoke or anything, I'm a little stumped. Should I just add oil and watch it more carefully?
You should check the oil with the motor off standing up straight, not on the kickstand, unless they changed it from '02. The foam is normal, you'll get that from the returning oil mixing the oil up.
04 and newer are checked on the jiffy stand and motor off according to the service manual and owners manual.....not sure about the 03 and previous ?
as for it being a lil low, do not wory, it should be in the middle of the add and fill marks...if you fill it up to the full mark, it will expel oil through the breather bolts and into the carb/efi throttle body. that is prolly were your missing oil went)
as for some bubbles/froth, no worry, it is just from the returning hot oil being pushed back into the oil tank.

evidently they did change it since 02, check it COLD ON the kick stand. and it should be between both marks. if you check it hot and it is below or at the lower mark add 1 quart. never fill past the top mark, hot or cold, this will cause oil to run out of the ac......

04 & up Sporties should be checked HOT, motor off, on the jiffy stand, with the oil level mid way between the ADD and FULL marks.
Some dealers are notorious for shorting customers 1/2 quart or so on the oil when they do the service. (more profit in their pocket). You should never leave the dealer after a service without checking the oil level. Better yet, do your own oil changes.

OK that makes sense cause the stick it's self says to check it hot... This is probably a really stupid question but, what type of oil should I run re: the weight?
I'm in Texas and know weather dictates, I've aways run 10w-30 in my cars do I run the same in the sporty? I have to admit I'm embarassed to even ask!

Nope, not altogether true but you almost have it right......
Per the service manual 2004 and 2005 on page 1-11, you'll find directions for checking the oil both cold and warm. In both cases the manual refers to the bike being on the jiffy stand. The only reference to the 2 marks is when the engine oil is checked cold. It does not warn against the oil being at the upper mark, only going over the above mark in item 5 of the warm check procedures. This can be found on figure 1-3 "Checking the Oil"
