Default Stage what???

this may be a stupid question but, I'm going to ask it anyway... What are the diffrent stages for a pre EFI sporty? I see refrences to stage I, II, and so on.

Do the diffrent parts or number of S/E parts go to the "stage" it is or what? Is there a link or post that explains it?

Thanks,
Jason

I always thought that a stage I was new exhaust, a high-flow air cleaner setup, and either the rejet(carb) or the addition of a power commander (EFI). The concept of a "Stage .5" is new to me (I realize you did not come up with these, just pointing out). Personally I don't see why an 883 needs a 1200 conversion to be a stage I. And is an ignition module really going to do anything for a motor that is full of stock guts??

Everyone seems to have a slightly different view on what constitutes a Stage. For example, the following website is classifying this as a Stage 2 even without cams or an upgraded ignition module...but it does give me ideas ;-)

According to the graph the Buell heads don't increase power untill after 4300 rpm. I don't know that I've have ever had my bike above 4300rpm.?

Most people consider that stage one (pc, a/c, pipes), although some/many would add the ignition to fully complete the stage one. that's my understanding.

I bet ya have... The "redline" is like 6000. 4300 should be pretty easy to come to, unless you take it really easy. Plus if you are the kind of guy that is going to instal Buell heads, then you are the kind of guy that gets well above 4300 RPM.

Edit: I have never ridden a 1200 though, so IDK... Can't immagine it would be that different.

I'm glad to see the question asked and answered. I've been meaning to ask that myself.
