Hi all. Just bought my second bike, first Harley. 2002 883 with 4k miles and some tasteful mods of grips, fwd controls, and pipes.
I have been searching and shopping online for a windshield. I am one of those riders taht prefers one when on the highway but loves to rip it off when just cruising around town.
I have found lots of threads with detailed reviews and pics and pretty much know what I want. But, I am not sure of the fit with my Sportster.
I would like to get the HD quick release w/s as seen here.
Here's a pic looking almost straight down of my Custom with the HD quick detach
screen in place. I'm sure you'll have clearance on the headlight and *probably*
be OK on the speedo, but the best thing would be to borrow one for a test fit.
Stone, I don't know what specific HD w/s model I have on my 02', (mines an E-bay special) but it looks almost identical to Mikes pic.
I've got 2 1/2" from top of headlight to w/s cutout (w/o fairing) & a c/h under 5" w/s to the tree.
Hope that helps.
that came with my 1200. It was not an HD windshield though. The thing you have to remember is the correct height you need. Somewhere on here or a google search you can find what height you need.
When I rode the bike home after I first bough it, my head felt like it was in a paint can shaker. So, I tilted it forward, back, in the middle, with no different results. Then, I began trimming off one inch at a time, along with the tilting back and forth, with no luck. I trimmed about 6" off and said the hell with it.
Some of the problems I have found, apparently come from air coming up from along the sides of the gas tank and other areas.
I have the Harley clip on and it works great. Yes it will fit your bike. goes on and off in 15 seconds. DON"T get some semi cool cut down windshield if you want to get the wind off you.
The other bikes are not roadsters, you'll need additional space for tach and speedo. Which seat is that? Looks good for 2up.
Yeah, I'm noticing that the others don't have the tach and speedo in front of the handlebar like mine. That is where my concern comes into play. I made a cardboard cutout with the measurements of the HD w/s. If the w/s came flat like the cutout, it won't fit. But, of course, the w/s will have a bend and flex to it that might just clear the tach and speedo hardware. The other thing is the angle. Isn't the w/s suppose to be the same angle as the fork? Or is it closer to a 90 degree angle to the ground? Is the HD model adjustable? The pics make it look like it is not adjustable and just snaps onto the fork.
RE: seat. I am not sure of the seat model. It came with the bike and was one of the mods done to the bike. It has a nice embroidery (sp?) of "Sportster" stitched into the side. It is very comfortable.
When i was looking for a windshield i tried the sport model but didnt like how it looked so i returned it. I will eventually try the quick release detachable compact. I also tried the sundowner seat for 2up but with the mid controls the seat moves you up a bit so it made it unconfortable to ride so i went back to original seat.
I would definitely go with the HD quick release and don't forget if your measuring there will be an arch in the windscreen which should give you the clearance for your gauges.
