I mentioned what I thought it might be; possibly the shifter pawl spring broke and is down in the transmission.

But whatever you find, I'd sure appreciate knowing the result.

Thanks.

i think the idea bentwrench had about draining the primary fluid over a magnet was perfect.

I recently had a tranny prob as well. It turns out that 2 of the shift drum pins (??? I know) backed out a little and were causing the detent plate to ride a little crooked. This was allowing the "dogs" on some gears to hit a little when the bike was either leaning to the right or under a heavier RPM. (I guess centrifugal (sp) force was causing it to slide over a bit.) I made some calls and got 1 of 2 detent plates in the state! way faster than my indy would have gotten it. I'm glad dealers are open on Sunday's around here. After all that it, was a $3.99 part that cost me about $1000 and a month to find.

Default Shift Drum Pins

I'm going to tear into mine this winter for what I think is a bent shift fork. It takes a "hard" shift to consistently get into 3rd. A soft shift and I can in between 2nd and 3rd.

The mention of the shifting drum pins backing out causing damage to the detent plate gives me a heads up that I need to take a close look at them.

Thanks for that input.
