I've had tach's on a few other bikes (and most of my high performance cars), and although I like having one I don't feel the need to install one on my Sportster.
I more or less just listen to the engine and let it tell me when to shift.
We checked the rev-limiter on my 2005 1200C, and it starts kicking in at 5,985 RPM. I don't need to be running that high of RPM's on the street anyway, even with the SE "E" cams.
hey nysportster im from conger(rockland county) about 40 mins from you. niko im also thinking of getting and tach and wondering which would be best.iv been looking on ebay for weeks but dont know what set up to go with.i would just like to know the rpms(not for shifting but just to know)
Ironworks and NY sportster... my bike is in the middle in Westchester county. Maybe we can plan something.
Dakota Digital has some nice tachs... but they get up there in the 300-400 dollar range. A bit much in my opinion
hey niko where in westchester? that sounds like a good idea. i know westchester pretty well. i worked for a piano mover for years and we did alot of moves in westchester.
I've had tachs in the past to help me know when I was in high gear. With the Sportster I can tell by feel and sound without a tach. Therefore I don't have a need for a tach. I don't ride a bike hard enough to worry whether or not I'm red-lining.
I'm with Blackbird, I had a xl1200R with a tach and removed it. I put on a chrome speedo bracket and it looks so much cleaner. Put on SE II and you can hear when to shift.
