Hey guys ... My name is Mike. Im 21 years old and I just bought my first harley about 3 weeks ago. Shes a 1997 Sportster 1200 Custom with only 4,400 miles on her. Shes in perfect condition. I do however have a question. It has Screaming Eagle Slip-Ons ... Im not sure if they are the SE-1 or SE-2 ... It just says Screaming Eagle ... But they do have baffles. I like the way they sound ... But Im looking for something louder(but not drag pipe loud) ... Looks is also big with me also ... I love the Hooker Trouble Makers ... but they dont make them for the older sportsters. Vance & Hines dosn't make too many sets ethier. Ive seen some samsons that I like (are they any good?) ... I also saw a set that resembled the trouble makers for the older sportsters ... and you could get heatsheilds ... but not sure if they came with baffels or not. Any help is appriciated ... Thanks in advance.
I dont know either. Loud is hard to get a handle on. And since this is your first harley, just put some miles on, go to a few bike rallys and see and hear other peoples bikes. Get yourself educated.
This is the hardest thing with accessories. A seat may look good in a catalogue, but it tells you nothing about how it will feel after a hundred miles sitting on it. Same with pipes, we all dont listen to the same music, what is pleasing to your ear, may not be pleasing to mine.
Ride it, enjoy it, put the money in the gas tank right now. THere will be plenty of time for the "getting", you have a nice bike, plenty plenty fast just as it sits. And if you think some day you might be moving up the ladder. Its the add ons, not the bike, where you lose the money.
welcome and congrats on the sporty. my soprty was a 97, and i had sampson street sweepers on it. it had a really deep rumble and look great, and the neat thing at 50 + mph the sound is behind you and it wont make you go deaf! good luck and enjoy the forums and your ride!!
If you don't mind the look of the slip ons, you can always change baffles for a different tone....If you're looking to change the look I'm sorry I'm not much help...I have a 2000 custom so I don't know what fits your year.
I have Vance Hines straight shots with Big City Thunder baffles installed and I love the sound. I think someone else ion this group has installed the same baffles in his SE slip ons.
I like the look of the slip-ons ... but I think I would like a different look. I have been looking at the Samson "Slashers" ... And also the Bassani "Sweepers" ...
