I just rolled 1000 miles on my sporty. So i dont think im going to bring it to the shop for the 1k service. To much money. Anyways i think im going to run synthetic. Can i do this on its first oil change or should i wait longer? And if so what oil do you guys recommend? Will any brand synthetic 20w 50 work? Also im think im going to go with the k@n oil filter. Feel free to comment.
I put syn in all my bikes and I do it starting at the 1000 mile service and every 5000 miles after. I use Harleys oil and have no problems. Had almost 30,000 miles on my RK when I totalled it. I have found the motors run about 5-10 degrees cooler with syn. I factor that off my dipstick oil temp gauge and my buddies with the same bike and he runs regular oil. K&N is awesome filter, just make sure you get the fuel flow corrected if you change the filter.
thanks for the replys everyone. Do i really need to get motorcycle oil, or will regular mobil one work. I will buy the mobile one v twin if i can find it without ordering it. But i need to change it asap. But if its requried i guess i could drive the truck for a few days[:'(]
i thought you got your bike the same day i did april 22. if so you got the 2 year warranty with first year services free like me. i took mine in at 800 miles and had the 1000 mile
service done and didn't cost nothing take 2 hour for them to do it.
Same here. Most dealers give you service coupon for 1000 mile service. Gives them the aility to tighten screws, make adjustments to parts after the break-in period, and of course, to get you comfortable with the dealer service department. The service coupons I got with my bikes assumed using dyno oil. It was about $25 out of pocket for me for the synthetic switch when using the coupon.
True the dealer service prices can be high. But if you have the coupon, I'd let your dealer do the first service. They are making those adjustments for you on top of the oil change. After that, go DIY or find a local wrench you trust.
Either way, I agree with everyone that synthetic is a good switch. Bikes run cooler, shift smoother, and seem happier overall.
ill give the dealer a call today and find out if i got the warrenty. Because one person was trying to sell it to me. Then another guy said it came with it. But then i asked the guy in the back where i actually picked up the bike and he said no. ????????????
