More questions sorry, I pulled the plugs on my 06 1200 with 600 miles and found them to be looking like it is running rich. I live at 6500 feet elevation, no air here and I am getting ready to put on a screaming eagle air intake kit. Should this help with the running rich issue? I am also going to install some ngk irridium plugs to see if this combo helps.
In the future I hope to put some VH HS slip on exhaust on the bike, but not till next summer.
Thanks for all help.
Rich
Oh yea, I plan on draining the gas also and putting in some premium with octane booster, or carb cleaner? Is this a good idea?
Thanks again,
Please help, I plan on undertaking all this tomorrow as I have the day off. I have read the oil section and there is so much information there it is confusing? That section says fram filters suck, any other input?
Thanks Rich
Draining the gas=good. Carb cleaner too. I'd put in a pair of regular plugs for at least the next 400 miles and at the 1000 mile service see what they look like before you use more expensive ones.
Am I missing something regarding draining the gas? Is this a thing that is done at elevation for some reason?
The a/c will prob lean it out a bit, but replacing the plugs with high end ones will do very little for you on their own. Go with cheap ones like fixedmlc said. Run them for a while and check to see if your air/fuel mix is squared away.

Why are you draining the gas? An 06 1200 should have had "premium" 91+ octane fuel to begin with. If you are doing this for storage, the tank should be full of fuel with a stabilizer such as Sta-Bil or Seafoam added to the tank. A gas tank that is not full will rust.
There was a problem with valve guides in 05, and it possibly may have effected some early 06 bikes. Basically, the valve guides would leak oil down the valve steam. It made the plugs look like they were rich. Mine had the problem and would foul the plugs every 5K miles. Finally there was enough deposit built up on the inside of the valve that it burned.
I was draining the gas because the 06 model bike only had 600 miles on it and I figured the gas was old and bad??
I was going to fill her up with premium, and some carb cleaner, and stabilizer also?
Low mileage bikes are great, but usually require some work.
Thanks for all your information,
Rich

I see, better safe than sorry. It could have been sitting for a while.
if the gas was sitting in there for a while, you might wanna drain the float bowl if you havent already. Lots of grime will probably come out... my bike was only sitting for a few months before i bought her and her float bowl had some nasty stuff in there. just be sure and catch the gas with something...
