My speedometer is dead, I took apart the handlebar assembly apart to remove my turn signals when this nightmare started. I notice one wire goes to the handlebar assembly, but the other lights there work so i don't think that's it. Another wire goes down the frame under the tank. I did take my tank off earlier, could something be unplugged there? Also, where does it go? The transmission? Is there a fuse I need to check somewhere?
OK, one the left side of the bike remove the side cover..the battery sits under this cover. Attached to the battery is a rectangular case that holds the main fuse or maxi-fuse. As you look at the battery let your eyes slide to the right and the fuse block is located to the upper right...should be six fuses here, all 15 amp. From top left and counting down 3 you have the Accessories fuse, battery fuse and lights fuse. Top right counting down: Ignition fuse, instruments fuse and spare fuse.
You also have a speed sensor connector that plugs together just to the left of the battery...check to see you did not disconnect accidently. Under the tank....yes again...you have connectors for both left and right side switches. Left side is a grey connector and right side is a black connector.....

left and right side swithes, can you explain further? I did notice there is a female plug on the right side nothing is plugged into.
Switches on your handlebars....the wiring is routed under the tank. The grey connector is for the right handlebar switches and the black for the left side. I think this is opposite of what I said earlier...just checked the manual. These are the typical male/female connectors. I suggest checking all of your conections since you were under the seat and moving wires. The Speed sensor transmits and electronic signal to the turn signal module and speedometer through serial data. Power is monitored through the ignition control module which is under the seat.
You need to pick up a shop manual for your bike....it is invaluable in providing understanding and direction in making repairs. They run about $50 at the dealer.
