You didn't say how tall you were. Taller riders have an easier time with drags. Certainly a lot of people go with apes. Do you want to be different or comfortable?

Try this to help you decide...sit on the bike (have someone hold it up so you can keep feet on the pegs). Put your hands at your sides and close your eyes. Reach up to where you think you want the bars to be. Open your eyes and see where your hands are. Then look for bars that will put your hands in that area. That will help you narrow from apes, drags, or other.

As for how much over stock to go with cables: DWG mini-apes on 04+ Low models, use +3. For 04+ Custom models, use +6. You need the extra length for the Customs because of the taller riser. You'll need to extend control wiring 6-8" also (6" and 8" are common extension lengths for kits and adapter plugs). You'll also have to extend the turn signal wiring unless you move the signals down to the forks.

Which would better fit me for my 2006 1200L . Just did forward controls. Don't want to "reach" for the bars.

Advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I had dragbars on mine and didn't like the reaching part, they look good, just not comfortable at all. If you ride for more then an hour you get very uncomfortable. I'd vote for the mini apes. I have pull back bars on mine and really like them, very comfortable. I'm sure mini apes would give a similar comfort level.

I'm a little biased towards apes having them myself but have to say that unless you have a tall riser with extreme pullback and even more pullback on the bars that you will be leaning fwd. with any type of drags as its just the nature of their design. You might also consider a set of flat track style pullback barsor the sporster pullback bars which look simialr to stock bars but are slightly taller with a lot more pullback. I almostgot a set of Flanders lat track bars but liked the look of apes and of course the apes were cheaper (most Flanders bars or pricey).

Good luck on your decision.

I went with the HD 12' mini apes, I'm a shorty though and have the mid controls so, yeah.
