I read the article on double clutching and being an ex truck driver i can tell you that a lot of drivers don't even use the clutch except to start out with.Once you get moving with a big rig you no longer need the clutch untill you stop. You can do the same with your car if it has a manual transmission or your motorcycle.

If you dont downshift as you slow, what do you do when an emergency situation occures?if your rolling at 20mph and your bike is still in 5th what if you need to accelerate in a hurry? I mean, you dont start out in 5th, why would you end in it? If you dont know how to downshift properly, get your girly a$$ off of the road.!
I have spoken.

NOT advisable even though it can be done. Dirt bike, OK. HD, not OK.

LoL, well, I guess that is a pretty direct way of stating an opinion.

I haven't read this whole thread, but I agree with the downshifting as you slow down theory, for a couple of reasons.

Most important is that I want to be in the correct gear/power range for the speed I am moving in case you do need to accelerate quickly for one reason or another.

If I'm slowing down for a stop sign and see a drunk or 'out of control' vehicle flying up behind me, I want to be able to twist the throttle and get out of there and not have to worry about downshifting from 5th gear or whatever before I can move.

Also, why put all the burden of stopping on the brakes? Use the brakes to slow, then downshift to a lower gear and let the engine braking power help slow the bike. Your brakes will last much longer, and they won't heat up and/or fade as quickly.
