Default Engine noise

500 miles on the new bike- 1200 Low. had a full helmet, today purchased a new HD 1/2 helmet and " boy can I ever hear the engine (tappet city)holy $h!t is this normal (never noticed the tappet, cam or what ever with the full ear cover helmet.
Called the dealer they said yes the noise is normal for the 1200 Sportster the dealer said get a stage 1 and the tick tick will go away

Just wanted to know if the noise gets better or worse
thanks

Do you hear the noise all of the time, or only at low speeds in lower gears?

I don't think the stage 1 makes the tick go away, you just can't hear it because your pipes will be louder.

I hear it at high speed 50-65 mph......dealer said it is the norm for that bike ...........going in for the 1000 mi service I will have them listen at that time (it's a 50mi trip to the shop it should be warmed up by then.)

Sportys are noisey. Change the oil and tranny fliud (syn. Amosoil, Red line, Mobil, etc.). It will sound a wee bit quiter.

Thats 100% normal for a sporty. Most people drown the noise out with the exhaust upgrade.
