I have a 03 1200 Custom. Last Friday coming home from work, the odometer would blank out and the speedo would drop off to zero.(like it was loosing power) and the bike would spudder. This would happen when I hit a bump. So I limped it home and it's been in the garage for a week. I went out last night to check it over. The bike would not start. I checked for spark, and I have spark. The plugs where wet, so I'm getting gas.
I then took the seat and tank to check for a rubbed wire, and can't find anything. It seems like somthing shorted out on me and maybe it messed up the firing sequence? It's firing on decompression instead of compression maybe? Any ideas?
I suppose you checked all fuses....I never assume the obvious. More likely it's the Ignition Control Module or the Crank Position Sensor or associated wiring. The quick fix is to take it to HD but if you want to troubleshoot the problem yourself and have a multimeter, email me olesalt43@***.net and I'll see if I can email you a ignition schematic out of my 04 Sportster service manual. It should match yours.
