Me and a buddy are going to go ride around NYC next month to see the sights. We both are sportin peanut shells for helmets. We will be riding through Jersey and Pa. I know Pa has no helmet law. My question is will Jersey and NY pull you over just for the helmet? We will not be acting like idiots, just riding and seeing the sights. My exhaust is V&H Side Shots and he is on a Honda Shadow. So we are not obnoxiously loud.
PS. we do not want your motherly advice about helmets thanks.
You will be pulled over in NY for the simple fact that you are on a motorcycle, they will check your registration, proof of insurance, driver license, and inspect the motorcycle. Make sure the helmet is legal. Here`s an earlier discussion about it:
Times are tough in Ny so those out of state plates might make a nice target, I know there are no quotas for tickets, but hey money is money. And if You did recieve a ticket the cost would be more than a cheap DOT helmet , so it's a toss up. ... WVleo ( but born & raised in Ny )
I have heard they are cracking down hard in my area of NY. One of the local shops told me that the police are targeting anyone that looks like they are not wearing a DOT helmet and ticketing.
this does not look good. Thanks guys, we do have legal helmets but I hate to look like a bobblehead going down the road. Plus those dot helmets catch so much air
To me,this is one of those things that should be based on your home state. I dont take my window tint off when I drive in another state. I also dont take my 5"lift and 35" tires off when I drive in another state. If its legal where the vehicle is registered then other states should not have any say. A helmet should be no different. You cant carry a trunk around with different outfits for each state.

You can do what you want, and when you get pulled over, tell that to the State Trooper...
The laws of a state apply to everyone in the state, no matter where they are from (except diplomats).
