I don't need to tell anyone how Sh*ty stock shocks are on a Nightster. I want a better ride but also want it a little lower does anyone have experience with the burley slammer shocks .are they worse need some sugestions. Keep in mind I want it lower in the rear.
I put these on, lowers it about 1/2 inch, stock is 11 and these are 10.5. You get what you pay for with these. A little better than stock but not enough for me to tell you to run out and buy these. Cheap way to get all black shocks, if comfort is what you want save the money and buy progressive. Alot of people seem to like those.
Lower a "Low" model and your almost on a hard tail.
Do the math 1.6" of shock travel..bout .6 in sag.
I got 3.69" shock travel, I use It all.
Progressive will help as long as you get the right springs.
Lowering blocks change the shock angle,,make a regular shock
more progressive in function.
They also greatly increase the forces on the shock mounts.
If ya go there get real good ones.
i have the slammers on my nightster and there is no difference in ride between stock and now. i ride my girl on the back every now and then and i have yet to bottom out. the only issue is obviously when you turn your sitting lower so you will scrape your kickstand/exhaust easier so you cant turn like you normally would.
I did the math and a stock size shock can only compress 1.5" and there is.3" between the tire and the finder. that leaves you 1.5 to lower it before you will ever bottom out . I just want it as low as I can go without making it ridged . So. I guess lowering links suck
Replacing shocks that give no wheel travel with others that give no wheel travel is a waste of money.
2 inches of wheel travel is going to be poor, even with the best shocks in the world.
Better shocks really help with long travel suspension, as they are doing something, and the damping really comes into play.
I'll tell you, i have a set of Licks 10.5"s and they ride pretty hard. I dont mind but after a few hundred miles gotta pull off and drink the kidneys back into health. I love the way it makes the bike look and I'll get a bagger when the Jack Daniels stops taking away the pain.
I have that same slammer kit on an 03 Sporty, front and rear. Lowers the bike I think 2 inches, Must use shorter kickstand. Great for city, sits low but rides hard.
