Default Yet another exhaust question.......

I have looked and haven't found a good answer. I'm looking to put on 1 3/4" OR 2" straights.......(which would be the better size for that REAL Harley sound.) I had a set of straights with the baloney ends that I had to take off. I didn't like the rattle at deceleration. If I get the straight pipes, what else would I need to keep that Harley sound and not have the rattle? Would a new A/C and.or needles be needed?? I have no clue if I need needles...I have an '01 Sporty 1200C.

Thanks for the help.

Replace your slip ons with Rush slip ons. They sound great and performance to boot. Fuel Moto from this site may sell them. That sound you refer to as the real Harley sound is hard to imitate unless you have a Shovel,Pan,Knuck...... Good luck and enjoy.

I don't want to put on slip ons, I want to go with straight pipe. Which would be better 1 3/4" or 2" and why is it the better choice??? Also, would a new A/C and.or needles be needed?? I have no clue if I need needles...I have an '01 Sporty 1200C.

1 3/4" is the proper size for the Sportster motor.

Don't set your idle below 960? rpms, trying to get that potato, potato sound. The Sportster oil pump ceases to pump oil at those R's.

A newbie question: Is that replacing the needles?

The smaller pipes will give you a tighter sounds and less rattle sound on backidle. I like the rattle sound so I don't mind my pipes being open and I want to say there are like 2.5 or 2 3/4 at the ends.
