in the garage now and i finally got it running. Turns out i was missing the needle seat. must fell out while I was cleaning it. DUH!!! I have it almost right except for two issues now. The idle seems to float after a blip and will not drop immediately to idle. Normal for these motors? Second, when i turn the throttle from a stop it will hesitate, backfire spit and stutter, then with a bit more throttle she will catch and run fine but i gotta keep turning the throttle until it catches. Kinda embarrassing thru town. The accel pump is squirtin. what else to check?

As was opined above, this sounds like it needs a jet change that would be part of a Stage 1 upgrade. I know my bike ran like yours when I first bought it. Had the shop rejet it and it's been fine ever since.
Mentioned above was the cam sensor which can give issues, especially when they heat up and fail only when heated. There are several methods of troubleshooting that.
But I feel the timing may be off just enough to give you that hesitation and stumble when attempting to accelerate.
ok.... here it is.... Crank sensor. Found the little issue of 04's having issues with bad sensors after searchin my eyeballs off online and gave it a shot. tuned the carb, its got fuel and spark, battery charged. Put in the new sensor and low and behold, she runs great. took a tool round town today with a big f**ckin grin ear to ear. The idle still doesn't drop imediately but all the spittin and stuttering is gone. Now for a little fine tuning. thanx for all the help.
