This morning when in 1st gear changing up to 2nd the clutch assmbly sounded like it was a dentist drill and then some clunking sound like a screw or something
it lasted about 30 secs then no sound and harley ran as normal
then tonight it did it again but this time last full 15 miles ride home i couldnt stop but took it slowly
ive drained the transmission and no metal flakes i decided to try and split the transmission un did all the long bolts but still can not split it
any advice on how to split the case and also what the noise could be
Uh, not sure you CAN split the trans case. What year is the bike? I think they stopped making the case "split-able" without tearing apart the crankcase in like 2004-5.
Engine is rubber mounted
Trap door transmission eliminated (cases must now be split to access transmission).
Oil tank is mounted further under the seat
When my main shaft bearing failed all the shavings were in the corner of the case and none came out when I drained it. You will need a lift and a dentists mirror and a good light. Good luck.

Yeah it's a 2009 model. The other thing that I noticed is that when u turn the ignition key it auto starts without me pressing the start button? U think this is all linked
If you are lucky it is just the starter trying to engage while the bike is running. Sounds like you have a starter problem, either a ground or a short.
