My 99 883 has a bushing in the bottom, you can see it near the fork. No movement whatsoever.

But, I took my wheel off when I painted the fenders, and now it seems like my rotor is bent. Never been laid down, didn't pry on it, nothing. Just seems to make a funny noise when I am NOT on the brake. Didn't do that before.

Good luck with yours, I say a bushing is missing.

Wink

I just went out and messed with it. here goes...
if I hold the caliper flush against the fork and bolt it to spec the inboard pad is far away from the rotor.
if I do not hold it against the fork and bolt it to spec the gap shows back up but the pads align perfect.
I did it both ways with the old pads and the new pads, same results each time.
amount of movement both ways is about the same. I have compared ever piece with the exploded diagram in my HD manual and nothing appears to be missing.
I really need to get another bike so when one is down I can still ride.. then again I would probably never fix the one that is down if I am out riding.

did you check and make sure the outboard pad did not come off the spring clip?
this caliper/pad design seems crappy to me. love the way PM does theirs.
