Difference 86-91 midcontrols??

Difference 86-91 midcontrols??
Does anyone know if there is a difference between the 86-91 mids and the 91-03 mids?? I have an 89 and want to put mids on because it is a hardtail and want to be able to lift my weight if there is a big pothole etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for looking

Someone on another site said that 91 was the year they went to the 5 speed and the shaft was a different size but waiting for other responses. My forwards are jay brakes but look pretty bad and are missing the peg on the right. I may just keep the forwards since i may go to a jokey shift at some point.
