Chase the plug wires. If you come to a big thing with fins, that's the engine. Go the other direction, and when you get to the end of the wire, that's the coil.

I had the exact same problem. It was the battery connection.

Do the lights shut off, too? If so, it is battery related. If not, look elsewhere for the problem.

Well yes speedo gos off lights dim and go out and I'm stuck on the side of the road lifes great. Hope my first Harley experience gets better

Yup, sounds like it is killing power to the whole bike...check the battery cables. Sorry to hear it mate. Once you get the bike running tops you will enjoy it. That is the problem with buying somebody else's ride, you also buy their problems. Not a Harley thing, just a used thing.

Wife just went and got me a new battery so hopefully this one was just bad it says 6-10-10 my cbr did something like this once and it was the battery poising charge while riding I get 12 volts with it on just don't know how much it drops while riding.
