Hey man, you'll learn to love it. I bought my bike with a rocker box leak (bad leak), dude overfilled the sump by like an entire quart, and the horn switch bad. Quickly learned how fix my damn bike, and now it's got sealed rocker boxes, a working horn, and will always have correct oil.

The funny part was when I got it home, we realized it was overfilled by the giant oil stain all over my back and the bikes rear end. I think I'm still wiping up oil from that day. I'm just glad it was a nice day to ride and my jacket could be wiped off. Still the best day ever!

Yeah I noticed oil everywhere on mine today. Wife comes with battery of course it wasn't activated so I had to put the old one in ride home 30 miles a hour for 40 miles bike sputtering backfireing everything. So I'm gonna set up the new battery tonight and I pray that's it. Just got it Saturday woke up Sunday to a flat tire had to get a new tire and tube this morning fun fun now wifes yelling and I haven't even started with mods yet. And I final note I notice no fuel filter on the bike.

Geez, did you @least get a good deal on it? Sounds like it was in the hands of a bonehead, glad it is with somebody who will fix it back up and take care of it!

Not bad... Don't get discouraged, as soon as you get it running tops you will really enjoy the bike! I can all but guarantee it is power to the bike. If it were power to the motor you would not have issues with the lights and speedo. Get that battery charged, then check the cables at both ends if that does not fix it. Also check the maxi fuse, could be that the fuse it lose in the holder.

Cool maxi fuse ? It looks like the wire harness has had stuff taken out the neutral is attached to lower chrome case on left side by pegs. Also none of my blinkers work lol. So if it's not the battery I may have a short I guess. It seems not to have any problems around town it only seems to happens on the freeway. I'm gonna get my old battery tested to see if it just don't take a load anymore. If anyone lives in socal I'll buy beer. If you can show me about harleys.

Did you even check or squeeze the 90* connections at the coil? Mine would do the same thing......Riding along and all of a sudden the bike starts loosing power, sputtering, backfiring, and the speedo needle starts jumping with the power to it going on & off. You do need to check the battery connections too. Also, it's a '00, so you'll also want to check all of the vacuum lines for dry rought. My VOES vacuum line roughted through a couple years ago leaving me stranded on the side of the road once-(its the vacuum line coming off the back side of your petcock going over to the little plastic-VOES-thing behind the carb).

I had a bug that got caught and pinched my speedo cable right by the handle bars/headlight area. Speedo was reading only 35 but I was going 65. Check for a pinched wire to the speedo somewhere. That might explain the city reading and the expressway read out difference. I had no idea it was that delicate. The other issues I haven't experienced since I caught the bug thing right away.
