Trying to install a set of drag bars on my 48 and I'm having some trouble. First off the bars rub the upper forks, and the blinkers are in the way of the switch pods on both sides. If anyone is running drag bars on their 48, all installation tips will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Yeah what he said, if they are hitting the upper forks they are to short or something else is wrong. As far as the signals I relocated mine down farther on the forks, I just grinded off the metal tab that's on them for alignment and they bolted right up. I think my drag bars I got are 32" and the signal problem was the only trouble I ran into.
I too run the 32 inch bars, I ran into no problems what soever when installing. You either bought the drag bars that are and 1 1/4'' inch and go down to 1'' at the clamps which they will not fit on the 48 you need a bar thats 1'' inch through out the whole bar.
The bars are 1" for the entire length, and they are actually Harley bars that were supposedly recommended for the bike. I don't think the width has much to do with the conflict at the fork caps, more to do with the amount of rise built into the upper triple tree. The bars actually contact the chrome hex head fork ends at the upper triple tree, won't seat completely in the lower mount. About to call the stealer now and see what kind of info they have. Thanks for the help so far.
I just received the Harley Drag bars that were recommended by HD for the 48/nightster. Prior to installing these on my 48, i have a few questions. The installation instructions state that I need to install a new stem bolt and washer, and perform a fall away test. Is this true or can I just keep my original stem bolt/washer on my bike? I was under the impression that I can just swap out the bars, with out having to adjust the triple trees or stem bolt. Also for the guys that put drag bars on their 48's did you end up having to relocate your turn signals? I'd prefer to stay away from the dealer in order to save money, but if i'm going to be required to perform a fall away test then I dont have the equipment to do that. Thanks for the help.
