be careful, "buffalo" is often actually water buffalo, which is not as good as cowhide. Or so the articles on wikipedia say.

I bought two pair from Jafum.com. I love both pairs,,the ones I got my wife are made from buffallo hide, there are a littler thicker then the ones I wear, they are made from prem. cow hide.. both wear great,,,the buffalo where 49 bucks and the other pair where 69 bucks,,,,NO COMPLAINTS OUT OF EITHER,,,,,just make sure you order like they say about going up a size

Nowadays there are jeans that come with kevlar lining that you can remove when not practical...chaps are ridiculous. My mom won't even wear chaps...

IF you can apply pressure with your thumb and see the fabric spreading on the other side, it's too thin.

If you decide to buy some chaps, buy the best you can afford. I bought the cheap $44.00 dollar chaps many years ago. Hell, I still have them in my closet. The cheap chaps work fine, keep you warmer than you would be without them and will help if you go down. A few years ago I decided I wanted new ones and pulled the trigger on high end chaps. I'm not a short rider like you will find all the chap haters to be. When we ride we ride far and in all temps. And we can't wait for the "cool" guys who can't keep up. I was truly astonished at the difference that really thick, high end chaps made. I bought Kelly's Leathers, but Fox Creek makes some super thick chaps as well. If all your wanting is chaps for the sake of wearing chaps, then any Pakistan or Chinese chaps will do. But if you want chaps that function and serve a viable purpose, get good ones. Just for a point of reference, my Kelly's Leathers chaps weigh in at over 5 freakin' pounds. Thats a serious set of chaps that will last for decades and give exceptional protection.
