Just because I wear a tie from Monday to Friday, doesn't mean that I"m any less a badass
on the weekends. Lifers? Who do you think is Harley Davidson's target market ???
After buying my 1200R I can see where I'll be a Harley owner / rider for life! But I guess I fall more into the "suit" category, I work in an office, dont ride in the rain on purpose but so what? I love my bike and riding it, isnt that all that counts?
I've heard it "They say a Sportster is a girl's bike" for years. First time I heard it was from a guy who rode a Sportster! ...Then he said, "Ah well, I don't care. I like it, like it a lot! (the Sportster)"
No one's told me to my face that I ride a 'girl's bike', but I've seen a smirk a few times from guys who ride BT's. Then I like to start talking about trips I've made, riding tank-to-tank-only stops for 10-12 hours, 900 mile trips I've made in a day, etc., then seeing the startled look on their faces as they say "You went all the way THERE on THAT?? I'd be so sore I couldn't walk!"
Then I'll get the lecture: "If you're gonna ride like that, you oughta have a bigger bike. You'd be more comfortable, ya know."
Then I smile and say "I guess ya gotta be kinda tough, to ride one of these girl's bikes"! Always gets me a laugh!
I think most people that say that are kidding because they know it's kind of like an old joke about Sportsters and they're just messing with you for fun. But if it's a big concern then buy another bike or find a new groups of friends.

I normally wear sleeveless T-shirts and blue jeans, but I do have a couple pair of pocket T's and black jeans (and even newer shined boots) that are used on special formal occasions.
MY first Motorcycle love affair was with about a 1965 XLH / XLCH depending on the day. I was a teenager and no way I could afford one. But I drooled over those bikes every time I saw one. I saw two bone stock 65 / 66 at Sturgis in '05. Both owned by original owners. I fell in love all over again. I ride a bagger now cause I love going for days and week at a time. But will never forget my first love.
Rode with some guys on sporty's last year in Vegas, I was on a rented softtail. Those sporty's were FAST. I could hardly keep up.
I'm a lifer. I had my bike license long before my cage license. I ride every day. I ride rain or shine, cold or hot. I've had my 06 12200c for 4 months. I've already have over 10,000 kms. on it. Girls Bike?, no such thing. I've seen women riding baggers. Any one that says that a Sporty is a girls bike is gellous or insecure.
I'm with everyone else who is sick of hearing this "girls bike" talk. Unless it's pink and has little baskets and bows, it ain't a girls bike. I haven't had anyone call my bike a girls bike and I think this is a topic that is more talked about in this forum than in everyday out and about life. I think as Sportster owners, we need to get this girls bike chip off our shoulder and enjoy the ride that we have. We're making ourselves look insecure and like asses to all the other Harley bikers out there. We call our bikes "Girls Bikes" more than they do.....
