I don't have this bike anymore but this is what I did to it..
The jugs and engine case were already black with all of the other side cases, valve covers and such chrome. I removed everything that would come off then engine and took it to a local powdercoater that does wrinkle black... Came out perfect!!
I posted this in a previous thread a year ago, figured I'd repost it so you can all see how I did it... Enjoy!:
Hey all! Just wanted to share what I got done with a buddy of mine (Drew-Tech) over the past month. Took alot of hours and plenty of ice cold beers but it was definitely worth it! Let me know what you think!
First we removed the crappy stock pipes and air cleaner assembly
Then we got to taping off the entire engine case, to include the lower gray fins on the jugs. If it was gray... it was gonna be blacked out!
After a few light coats of low gloss black high temp rattle can (to give it the black satin look against the textured gray) this was the after. NO MORE GREY!!!
Then we sprayed the air cleaner backing plate black as well as the air cleaner and installed it along with my new pipes and a Power Commander V and this is the final result. I'm EXTREMELY pleased and could not be happier!!!
The sweet drags have a nice loud growl to them and sound pissed the f*^k off all the time!!!

Hey guys, I'm on mids and the clamp is welded into the frame. Is there anyway to spray the casing that is so close to the clamp? I find it really hard to reach that area.

Well I picked up a can of VHT wrinkle paint and taped off the engine last Friday. It took about 4 hours to tape and around an hour to spray and touch up.
Here are a few pics...
Hey Gilmour,
How has it held up? Do you have any recent close-up pics?
I'm about to pull the trigger on this - I'd appreciate any insight.
My paint guy is in the process of doing this as we speak. One thing he did tell me was that he wouldn't be able to leave the fin edges out like the OEM's. And that he will have to paint the casing completely.
