The map I'm using now is FP0142 with the following changes,
mode1: 2
mode2: 4
mode4: 12
mode5: 0
mode6: 31
mode7: 15
mode8: 12
mode10: 4
mode11:2
mode14: 10
mode15: -3
mode16: 2
These changes were better but still low on mid range power. I have reset the Throttle calibration (mode19) and twisted the throttle very slowly up and down and rechecked mode 21 for throttle position and it is definitely better. It is more accurate in position and seems better on power. I will try it for a couple days and let you all know how that went. Hope this helps someone. Perry

Default Experimenting

So, when I bought my 2005 Road King, it had thunderheaders 2 into 1 exhaust on it. It was tuned to where it ran really good but I did not like 2 into 1 exhaust on my road king. I put on S&S headers along with Rush Big Louie slip-ons with 2 1/2 inch baffles. So I looked up the map and got fp0393, my fuel map number . Didn't run worth a ****, hiccuped and spit constantly. Called Vance & Hines support and they gave me a couple mode changes, modes 1 and 2 to increase from 0 to 3 and then was told to increase mode 17 from 0 to 2. That really didn't do ****. Still ran horrible but once you were up to cruising speed it was fine for the most part. I took it over to a buddy of mine that has been working on bikes for most of his life and he recommended making some changes on the modes 1 through 4 from 0 to 7 and then on mode 17 he said move it from 0 to 14 (of course at first we went up 1 or 2 without much of nothing happening) . Can't believe how good the bike runs with those moves. Still not quite there but it's actually ride able now at speeds around town ( I should say that really rode pretty well just some hiccups every now and again in the lower gears. Rode to OBX bike week like that and was good but still could use some fine tuning). The fuel map that I got from Vance and Hines and also the modes they told me to change didn't do anything that was worth a damn . I can't believe they were so far off. So much so that I have taken what I got from them and will be experimenting on my own. My buddy also told me don't be so scared moving some of these modes on your own. If you're not making the bike leaner then you're not going to hurt anything and you can always switch it back. I have started fine tuning a bit. I switched mode 1 down from 7 to 4 and did a test run and seems a tad better, maybe not quite as fast an idle, maybe? Just switched mode 5 from 40 to 35 and it sounds like it's idling way better and will be taking it out for a spin today. I have a bit of decel pop that to me, isn't that bad but Im still going to try and improve it later on after some other fine tuning. I still have a few more modes I want to switch a little bit and I'll keep you updated if you're interested.

With the last change of moving mode 5 from 40 to 35, I seemed to have gotten rid of all the hiccups.

New to this forum... Interesting to see an 8 yr old thread still somewhat active. Best thread I've found ye on this subject. I wish I would have done more research before buying. I just installed the Fuelpak on my 05 Ultra. Arlen Ness Super Sucker II, V&H Dresser duals and Screamin Eagle slip ons. Everything else is stock so far. V&H gave FP-0391 for settings. It runs pretty good, but i think there is more left on the table. Three things I noticed right off the bat. hard start(need to give gas to start), stumbles off the line for a brief second, and the engine light is on since installation.

I haven't gotten a response from them on the engine light yet. On the hard start, they advised me to change modes 1-4 from 0 to 5.

Settings for Fuelpak FP-0391
0 0 0 0 28 35 28 25 4 6 7 4 20 10 22 5 0 0

Default New guy here.

Hi all. My 01 Fatboy has a fuelpak on it. I have Vance and Hines short shots, and an Arlen ness air intake. I know nothing else about the engine. What the fuel pak recommends and the map I have are 2 different things. Modes 1 thru 23 are as follows. 4, 7, 7, 5, 23, 15, 27, 0, -5, -4, 7, 0, -3, 5, 9, 17, 2, 0, (mode 19 throttle position), then 12, 0, 0, 16.
my bike pulls hard, runs and sounds great, pops a bit on deceleration but not too much. Starts instantly, idles great.

Default Fuelpak fi modes chart

Deciphering the Fuel Pak Project

Anyone will tell you that the worst part about owning a Fuel Pak is the lack of end user adjustments. Even after getting 'dialed in' blindly by phone or email, many of us believe that there could still be room for improvement. The problem is, inherently it's very difficult to translate the feel of minor changes through a conversation on the phone.

The intent here is not to create a database for making bold adjustments to completely circumvent Vance and Hines tech support, but rather to gain an understanding of the values in order to fine tune these baselines.

Collectively we should be able to build a record of what each mode controls. Here's what I propose: those of you with a Fuel Pak please chime in with your experience in tuning of the product. I have already put together some information which I have gathered from various forums, so that will be the starting point. If you have any additional info/corrections please include that as well.

Mode Descriptions
1. idle fuel, throttle lag (-), off idle stumble (+)
2. idle fuel, throttle lag (-), off idle stumble (+)
3. idle fuel
4. idle fuel
5. ACCELERATOR PUMP (OLD DESCRIPTION: <1/4 throttle fuel, throttle lag (-))
6. 1/4 --> 1/2 throttle
7. PART THROTTLE BELOW 1500 RPM
8.PART THROTTLE BELOW 2000 RPM
9.PART THROTTLE BELOW 3000 RPM
10. cruise speed fuel 50mph 1/4 --> 1/2 throttle, highway stumble (+)
11. cruise speed fuel 60mph
12. cruise speed fuel 70mph
13.
14.
15.
16.
17. WARM UP PERCENT OVER STOCK (OLD DESCRIPTION: idle a/f ratio)
18.
19. throttle cal
20. version
21. throttle cal test
22.
23. DECEL THROTTLE OFF FUEL SHUT OFF RPM (OLD DESCRIPTION: fuel cut/injector shunt at 0 throttle, decel popping (-), stalling (+))

2004 Softail FXSTBI, 88ci, V&H ProPipe HS, SE Air intake, Andrews TW26 cams.

Got the Fuelpak LED for it last year (regretted it), with the idea of re-adjusting fuel because of the cams. Well, there were no such FP maps for this layout, after a couple of emails the tech sent me map FP-918. The bike started gobbling up lots of fuel, mileage under 30mpg. After some more emails with as accurate description of the issue, the tech changed several values asked my to try it. No real change in fuel mileage, although the bike woke up a fair bit. So, I took it to dyno shop, asked for specific fuel graphs at various throttle openings, rpms and loads, WITH THE FUELPAK REMOVED. My way of thinking, send the data to V&H, they'd zero in, rather than guess. The tech emailed me back with some further adjustments, objective is improvement in fuel mileage. As a sidenote, my 02 FLHT, carbureted, 95ci, V&H ProPipe HO, Mikuni 42mm, SE Ignition, SE Air intake, Andrews TW26 cams, mild head work (9.5:1 static compression), is getting a consistent 40+mpg.
Fuel mileage improved by 2mpg to 32 mpg, not impressed. While I'm educating myself on the next fuel management system, I decided to also find out as much info about these FuelPak cryptic mode sets. Thanks to this thread, I've put together what's been tried so far and further adjustments of my own, all changes highlited in RED. I've included 2 more maps, one for stock config FP-0030. the other Stage I FP-0032. There are still 13 modes that are "in the dark", so reading historically backwards, I'm trying out mode value adjustments in measured steps.
I have a theory. Stage I fuel feed without the 26s, can't be that far off with the 26s. They're a mild, torquey cam, and I know a lot of folks who are using them with a Stage I flash only, without any negative effects. I'm sure power would be improved, but the basics work. Now, the theory....if all associated FuelPak modes were at 0, would that not make the Fuelpak add nor subtract zero fuel from the Stage I fuel map, anotherwords be neutral...(I understand the perils of a lean EFI fed motor.)
If anyone has something to add, please chime in. I'll post updates on further adjustments and their behaviour on the Softail.
