Well this was a first and got to say didn't care for it. Was out for a ride and then all of a sudden bike like stalled out like running out of gas or something and I looked down my speedo went down to like 20 mph and then climbed back up to 65 which I was originally doing and then ran fine. Did it like four times twice going through the gears and once downshifting at once at speed. Anyone have this happen to them? Or have clue what this might be?
I was having weird problems like that when I had a fuel pak installed. I took it off and checked the speed sensor and cleaned it off and no problems since then.
Yes it's efi, well I just had new plugs put in the beginning of summer. I have had a time with this bike ever sence I put the side shots and intake on. First it was the fuel pack put that on bike ran like crap at 30 35 and at 60 65. Took it to a local shop to see what they had to offer. Tech put new plugs on and messed with the codes by calling Vance and Hines. Helped but was still not what I considered a proper riding experience so I got pissed and took the pack right off and ran with just pipes and intake. Ran good but thought the bike ran kinda hot so I ordered the x14ieds after reading on the forum everyone was having such luck with. Still surges at 30 35 which I figure is as good as it's gonna get with the short pipes. Now this problem I'm starting to think my bike hates me!
I'm wondering speed sensor too. I had a similar problem with my 07 Super Glide (Although not exact). We were riding along with no issues at all, then the speedo dropped to 0. In addition to the speedo quitting, the 6th gear indicator no longer worked, and the bike started stalling. All of the above ended up being the pesky sensor. Unfortunately cleaning the sensor didn't fix it for us and we had to replace it (Which took two weeks to get the part).
Ok next question would were is this speed sensor located so I could look into that. I still gonna look at the terminals and see if they are loose. Thanks guys for the advice I would rather post stuff on here and get info and what to look at and do it myself them take it to a shop and pay an arm and a leg.
The speed sensor, on my 48 anyways, is located almost directly under the oil fill on the engine. Its a analog hex bolt that's a pain in the *** to get to because its a small spot and its down inside the tranny. Its held in by a rubber ring so you have to pull up and wiggle to get it to pop out. Mine had some metal shavings on it and once I cleaned it off I had no more speedo or engine problems. Hope that helps ya
