xFreebirdx,

The plug itself isn't hung up because it's hanging down below the bottom of the bike. I thought that I got all of the zip ties removed but it may have one that I didn't see that is keeping the wires from moving.I thought about cutting the wires but I didn't do it because I want to see how to remove the stator with the wires so I know how to run the wires for the new stator and any places that are going to be an issue with the new wires. I'll check for more zip ties tonight when I get home from work. I appreciate your help on this.

DENGUY,

It sure seems like it. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost to have yours replaced?

Thumbs up

Earnie1200C,
a little trick I do to run wires is to cut them and attach a piece of safety wire, or string, I tape mine with electrical tape to the cut wires that are being pulled through. The wire that was attached is now in the old routing route. That way you have something to attach the new wires to to help you pull them through.
Don't know if this will help with the stator R&R.

Ramboamt,

That's a good idea. I usually use some heavy fishing line and attach it with some electrical tape. I didn't even think of doing it this time because of not being able to even get the wires to start being pulled out. But I will do this once the wires start to move.

Thanks.

Hummm, I agree it sounds like the wires must be hung up with something. I never had any problems with the wiring on a stator.

You asked somebody else about price to have replaced. One of my 4 stator replacements happened when I was out of town. Price including the stator was around $350.

SportyPig,

I'm beginning to think that I have a zip tie still attached that is causing the problem with the wires. I had a hard time seeing under the bike last night. It's on the lift and I'll do a better job of looking at it and find out more tonight.

I was curious about the price a dealership would charge for doing this job. So far it has only cost ~$150 for all parts, gaskets and a new socket to do this job. I would rather do the job myself than pay someone to do it.

Thanks,

Earnie

My bike has 12500 miles. I just had my stator and regulator replaced with Cycle Electric parts for 440$.

DENGUY and Cazimere,

Thanks for the cost information. After reading all of the posts about which stator to use I decided to go with the Cycle Electric stator also. If I can ever get the wires for the old one to cooperate with me I don't think it will take much more time to complete the job. I need to get it done so I can go the the Lake of the Ozarks Rally this weekend with my brother.

hey man... try loosening the 200000 bolts holding the cam cover on. no need to pull it off... but if you can get it pulled away from the engine a bit, the wire should pull through. had the same problem on my 08.
