yeah i had that problem too, had my voltage regular replaced(recall) and battery wouldn't charge after that. I check the alternator and it was good, then had the battery charged and tested, it was also good. So i thought it was the regular but the bike has been running fine and charging after fully charging the battery off the bike. So Maybe you just need to use a battery tender jr. and charge it fully then put it back on the bike. Hope you figure out ur problem!

Thanks for your input. This problem is driving me nuts. I use the bike for work 50miles one way. I first replaced the battery thinking the old 1 was 3 yrs old. Then the new one wend dead a few days later. I thinking o crap not the stater. Thats a big job. The service manual gave some specs on the out put of the charging system and it looked ok. Had to buy an aftermarket regulator from custom chrome. Didnt fix the problem. I event took the regulator off a coworkers bike and no change. Im thinking there is a wire somewhere broken or shorted.

Just been there, done all of the above. Then I took it to the dealer. It was the stator, even though I tested it and it was showning 30 to 55 ac volts when i reved it up and down. It also showed stator was grounding out with my meter. Dealer charged $450 , $85/hr labor [3 hrs]. I now have an extra battery and regulator.
