Default 2005 XL1200R - 1" Risers?

I am thinking of adding 1" risers to my 2005 1200 Roadster. I feel they would give the handlebars that little extra lift for a more comfortable riding position.

My question is, has any one done this, or does anyone know if the stock cables and brake lines will tolerate this minor lift without any added length? Harley is so miserly with cable and brake line lengths, I'd just like to know if I can get away with such a lift with the stock lengths.

Thanks in advance!

Have you adjusted your bars, to see if you can make them more comfortable? An inch is easily achieved without adding any risers, although the grips will be in a slightly different position. Well worth a try if you haven't done that. Your cables etc should be fine, whichever you do.

I did wind up installing 1-1/2" risers and the cables and brake lines were long enough to accommodate the increased height with no problems. The riding position is now more comfortable for me and all is good.

Cool, thanks for that. I have a 05 1200R and i measured the current risers (i believe they are stock) and they measure 2" from the base to the center of the bar. Were yours similar before you added the new risers? I'm thinking of adding an inch to what is there, so a 3" riser. Its just not clear where the measurement is from.

I am separated from my '05 XL1200R by about 150 miles for the next 3-4 weeks and can't remember precisely where I measured the rise from, but I'm pretty sure it was where the bars sit on the frame under the clamp. As I remember, there is a small rise built into the stock mount of about 1", so my 1-1/2" riser is giving me a total 2-1/2" rise. I'll be able to tell you better when the bike and I are reunited.
