Who is running 1157 red LED bulbs in the rear turn signals on a late model sportster and what did you use. Im having a hard time finding one that will work with the taper of the reflector, seems like they all wont go in far enough to twist into place.
I used a small round file and made the slots wider so that the bulb would hook in place. The plate with the contacts will still reach the bulb contacts. I did this about 2 yrs ago and I think I removed the wires fom the socket and the reflector from the housing just be careful of the ground wire, it is attatched with a rivet and will break off of the socket very easily if bent around too much. it may be easier to remove the entire turn signal, then pull the wires out some to get to the outside of the socket. I just removed some material from each side until I got it to fit. Be sure to reinstall the wires in the correct place if you remove them from the socket.

Use your white bulbs. Go to Michaels and buy red stained glass paint and give them a couple coats. Paint is $10.
I have red glass bulbs now, behind the smoked lens they look almost amber during the day and pink at night... wonder what would happen if I panted the chrome reflector part with the stained glass stuff...??? just a thought.
Those cheap push in ones from the parts house have a really narrow visibility cone. Seriously consider biting the bullet and look at a better grade of lighting.
I have these from custom dynamics, they are very bright: http://www.customdynamics.com/harley...gnal_retro.htm
I swapped to LED bulbs in the rear signals and switched to a red incandescent bulb and ditched the LEDs. The problem with LEDs(and I tried several different ones) is the light never hits the reflective part of the housing. So basically you end up with a small, 1" area of lighted surface versus about 2-3" of lighted surface with and incandescent bulb. I'm on my phone now but I believe I've got pics in my photobucket that show what I mean. Personally I say stick with regular bulbs, I find them brighter and safer.
True but they make some that have the LEDs on the side that will light up the reflector cone. I had one with a smoked taillight once and it was very bright. Problem is the same bulb will hit the relector cone on the bullet style signals.
Just wanted to know if anyone had one that didnot
