Start adding seafoam to your gas. It will slowly clean things up.

Run the bike so its nice and warm, get a misting spray bottle and with the air filter removed rev the engine a little and mist into the intake, try not to stall the bike. The steam will get at the carbon.

Another method I heard about but have my doubts about is to rev the bike and let it suck dry rice out of your hand. The rice will scouer the inside of the cylinder and blow out the pipe. I have my doubts bout that on.
Uhhhh, it's going to be difficult for him to do any of your methods seeing as his engine is torn apart/not running with him trying to figure out how to get it running again.

Default update

ok guys/gals I cleaned the pistons and they look new....well I cleaned the top that was exposed.... Now something that worries me.... the guy I bought it from i asked him his opinion on cleaning or replacing and he said " just have to replace the gaskets dont go any furthure i would have left that alone the more you take apart the more you are opening a can of worms use the manuael to help you " now i am left wondering.... what could be wrong with it.... what can of worms would I be opening? anything i can check/try I mean the pistons glide smoothly up and down there is a strong compression sound from both sides..... and this guy supposedly graduated from MMI, Please put my mind at ease and let me kn ow it should be fine..... Oh important question, can I use gasket maker (black high heat) instead of the paper gaskets? I have the 2 copper gaskets and they look almost new..... Ty for the responses and all the help. Here are the pics of the clean pistons

Using a spanner wrench on the shocks really isn't going to raise the bike in order to get the chain off the frame.......Using the spanner wrench will only increase the preload on the shocks and will not actually lengthen the shocks. You'd actually need to get longer shocks, and you measure from the center of bolt hole to center of other bolt hole to find out the lengths.

Oh, and you don't actually need a "Spanner wrench". I can adjust my old 13"ers by hand, and I've also adjusted them with a strap wrench or a big pair of vise grips & a towel so the teeth didn't screw up the chrome.
