This is a very inspirational build thread (and a beautiful ride you got there too) - thank you for your detailed log, Mich. I also want to know if/when you plan cams/head work.
Thanks for the props, I appreciate it and i hope this thread has helped you out. That was my intention when I started it.
Will I continue with the heads and cams? The answer is yes but has been put on hold as I have been spending most of my mad money on my other bike ( a Banshee V2 Spitifre Mountain bike which is worth almost as much as my Iron). I would love to do it this winter but I will have to wait and see what the cash flow is. I have to admit after the conversion the bike was so fun to ride without the heads and cams that I have been in no rush to get the stage 2 upgrade done.
If it does happen in the next while I will be documenting it and adding it to this thread.
Far out, man. Thanks for posting back.
FYI, this thread has definitely helped me out. I am not at the point of posting what I am up to... hopefully this winter I will be blessed with something to talk about -its all "gathering stages" for me right now.
Mich, what did you figure out about the oil on the back plate of your SE stage 1 round A/C? I just ordered that very a/c and was wondering what the verdict was?
I have a 2000 that has the big cams and the S&S carb and thunder header. I was very shocked the first time I ripped into it and it pulled the front wheel of the ground without using the clutch. I am very impressed with mine and have enjoyed reading your thread.

I just keep my oil level at about 1/3 when checked hot on the sidestand. I love the look of my SE AC but if I was flush with cash I might think of changing to a different AC that vents the oil mist to the atmosphere. Either way it is not a big deal, I have never had oil dripping from my AC the only time I see it is when I take the filter off to wash it.
Very well explained. After looking at prices for used bikes, now a couple of years from the date the conversion was done, almost more practical to get
a larger used bike. Looking through classifieds, there are many well priced low mileage bikes , available.
Great thread and thanks so much for taking the time to put this together. I am considering doing a 1250 kit for my 2014 Iron 883 and this info is very helpful.
I'm pretty confident (especially with your thread) on the install of the kit, but my greater concerns are in the tuning. I'm currently using the V&H FP3 and don't really want to invest in another tuner.
But to my question..... I reviewed the whole write up but don't think I saw anything about a clutch upgrade. Do you do this to handle the extra power?
