Default Headlight Aim?

...so I followed the factory repair manual for headlight aiming, and my next night trip out the light seemed WAY too high. (I think was like 35" high at 20' or so.) The bucket was basically sitting parallel with the ground like I see most bikes running...in fact I ran across another Sporty this AM that looked the same.

After this experience, I lowered the bucket so that it aimed downward about 10 deg. Riding in to work this AM (30 deg. you sissies) I still think it might be a little high. I am running a Silverstar Ultra H4, and the lower part of the beam starts about 10' in front of the front tire. High beam doesn't seems to cast this line of light IIRC.

Can anyone tell me from memory about how far out front your headlight beam first starts to illuminate the ground and / or how the light sits in relation to the ground?

I adjusted minelast week or so. I like the center of the beam hitting about 75-100 feet out. Want to see what I am running into. Got passing lamps so they cover the near and right. Changing over to LEDs shortly. Will have to play with them a bit.

Wow, I think the "center" of my beam was only like 30 or so feet out. It was had to say since I had my motocross helmet on with Oakley black iridium goggle lenses.

I just waited until it was dark outside and adjusted to the best visibility. For me, I like to see further down the road rather than right in front of me.

Same here, but it doesn't seem to do much good beyond 50 ft or so. Maybe once I get out of the city at night I can better tell.

Grab the necessary tools, a flashlight, and find a dark out of the way road. Then make your adjustments. If you can get it right on a dark road you should be good everywhere else.
