My 2000 sporty 1200s is having problems with the the idle. I set it between 950 and 1050 with the motor warm. After about 15 minutes of riding the idle shoots back up to 1500. I thought it might be a vacuum problems, but i pulled the carb and everything is in order, lines are clean no cracks or unattached hoses.....any ideas?
I just use the choke to get the bike going, maybe after the bike starts half way for 30 secs
then use the star wheel to keep the bike around 1200 tell it warms up.
If i set my idle before the bike is hot when it gets hot my idle is way to high like yours.

You could spray a little (very little, don't want to hose a hot engine) water over the intake manifold joints, or WD40, which I've been told also burns like starting fluid, so your rpm's will jump if there's a leak. It's negative pressure in the manifold (I'm guessing you probably know that, maybe someone reading won't) so anything you spray will get sucked in, but momentarily stop the leak before it does. If the rpm varies either way when you spray, there's almost certainly a leak. Bit different engine, but when my 883 goes off choke, it doesn't idle any faster as it gets hot.
