i've tried looking around a little and maybe I am just not used to the layout of this site...
are there any detailed write-ups on sportster mods? I have an 883N and was looking for how-tos for the 1200 swap, bolton power mods, suggested combos.... ect... I am not really sure if I should go all out and do everything to the motor at once, or start small and slowly add pieces.
I'd start with exhaust and intake and a tuner that can modify all the parameters in the ECM. SEPST and PowerVision come to mind. After that, I'd do the 1250 kit from NRHS with headwork and cams.
Here is a dyno chart showing the kind of numbers you could see if doing an NRHS 1250 kit, cams, exhaust, etc, and the different stages of headwork we offer:
If you want to read some articles about installing these kits go here:
Yes if you notice that ignition is taking it up to 7,000 rpms so you would need that also. But if it is a fuel injected bike the higher rpms is taken care of by the ECM tuner (race fueler, power commander, thundermax, etc) as long as you buy a good one.
Note: good ECM tuner IS NOT a fuel pak.
Thanx. I wouldn't use anything that didn't address the entire range of adjustable stuff like the SEPST can. I am considering that and the PowerVision. Most anything that doesn't use a canned tune I will look at.

You can also jump onto xlforum.net, they've got a whole section devoted to nothing more than doing 883-1200/1250 upgrades. Lots of useful info over there.
As far as how to do it, that's all up to you and how deep your pockets are.
You can go exhaust/intake/tuner route then further down the line do the 1250 or do it all at once.
If you've got a service manual and some basic mechanical skills you should be able to do the 1250 upgrade yourself. Just take your time and double check everything you're doing, DON'T GET IN A RUSH. Get frustrated with a part then take a break and walk away.
If you run into any hiccups you can always post a question on the forums or give Dan @ NRHS a call. He's extremely helpful and I've never heard or read a negative comment concerning his products or customer service.
