Default Help with riser install

Alright, so I got my set of 4.5" pullbacks today and a bar clamp from J&P.

I went to install it and the screws seem to bottom out before making any contact with the clamp.

Any ideas? Do I just need shorter screws? or did I just fudge something up?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Are you putting the screws in from the top or up from the bottom?
Maybe give us the J&P part #'s.

Goto the hardware store and get longer screws.

Sorry, http://www.jpcycles.com/product/512-427

The screws holding the bar clamp to the risers seem like their bottoming out too soon (as in the clamp is loose when I can't turn anymore.

The top right seems like the thread is jacked up... I might have to return them and wait another week before I can ride...

Otherwise I think I'll need shorter bolts and somehow fix the top right thread...

Ok I may or may not be reading this right..... So new clamp and risers.... the bolt bottoms out before tightening down the clamp to secure the handle bars? Is that what you mean? If so get a shorter bolt. Happened to me when I went from stock risers which the hole went all the way through the risers to a new set of 4.5's I think. New set didn't have hole through it. Shorter screw fixed it. Bring stock screw with ya to get right type thread which I think is fine.

You could try a thread chaser to clean up the one hole. It's like a tap with a flat bottom that doesn't cut as deep as a tap. You gotta be a little careful getting it started. I use a set of chasers all the time for powder coated parts, chromed parts and parts I want clean of Loctite for proper torque when re-installing.

Like was said if the new risers do not have holes or the screws to go all the way through then the stock screws will be too long. Just get short screws and it should be ok.

Awesome, thanks guys. I was frustrated as all hell yesterday and feel a little better now.

I'll hit Lowes on my way home from work and find some screws and a chaser.

thanks again!
