I get a loud clicking sound only. No sign of starter motor or engine turnover. Can anyone tell me what problem is and what I have to do to fix it? Thanks in advance
i just went through this 2 days ago, ended up being a dead battery, try jumping it from your car, if it turns over, time to get a new battery
I've had it hooked up to battery charger for 24 hours. Isn't that why I get loud clicking noise? If it won't turn over at all doesn't that mean starter motor or something?? Thanks

You are getting clicking noises because the starter is trying to engage but does NOT have enough juice to completely engage & turn the engine over. Do not jump your bike from a car. And if you do, do not have the car running and remove the cables as soon the bike fires unless your feel like replacing fried wires/electrical components. Check the four wire connections with a wrench to make sure they are tight, and you should also have the battery load tested by any auto parts store.

Thanks everyone! I'll get a new battery. Now that I think about I do remember in times past the clicking sound when I first put the battery on the charger, but then apparently it could hold a charge and would start the bike in time.
Before you go out and buy the new battery, double check your wire connections to and from the battery.
I had this problem on my 883 (and wouldn't you know it happened again a few months later). Thought for sure I just needed a new battery. Someone on this forum suggested checking the wires, and sure enough. Started up like a dream.
