Did I get Screwed??
Have contract in hand ...Heres my breakdown for a 883 standard
Bike 7089.32
tax 212
docs 283 <- bull$H1T
Registration 65
Total Bike 7650.00
debt protect. 880 pays 6 months of payments if not working)
gap 795
Extended Warr 2250 (6 yrs unlimited miles tires/rims included refundable if no claims against it - yeah right !

Coverages 6475
7650
6475
------
14125 -2000 down payment 12,125 financed.
All warranties and protections are debatable - kind of like wearing armor.
In my case, the Prepaid maintenanace and Extended warranty are a must. I have over 5200 miles on the bike since 8/19/06. The bike has been in for 500, 1000, 2500 and 5000 miles service already in less then six months. Lets say it if I were paying for them they cost on average $200 a piece .. Im already ~1/3 of the cost of the maintenance warranty. If what many on this forum told me when I was contemplating a bike, I will only get somewhere between 10-12k out of a set of tires ... 1/2 way there on the first set .... These two selections will without a doubt save me money very quickly.
Debt protection and Gap may not be as fruitful, but at least provides a little piece of mine.
I know that your bike is a few hunderd, maybe a grand depending on options, more then mine. Our bottom lines are very close, but I think I came away with a little more coverage then you did.
I dont cry over spilled milk. I try to pay as much attention while making the deal. I ALWAYS miss something. For instance, I totally forgot that the the previous dealer was offering a 883C for the price I paid for the 883 Standard. And it was my fault. Just before I said yes, I decided that I didnt want the forward controls. I found them a littel awkward and figured the standard controls would be a better option for my reintroduction. ..should have chewed them down another 3 to 5 hundred.
Oh well.
it just seems like to pay for a warranty thats almost as much as the bike you might as well buy another bike instead, that way you have two assets.but anyway i am not in any way trying to start an argument, there are too many other important things in our lives to worry about.enjoy your ride.
Below are the MSRP figures from Harley's site on that bike:
MSRP:
Vivid black $7,795Color $8,055

Two-tone $8,220Custom color $8,420
Wheel Option $450

H-DÂŽ Factory Security System $325
California Emissions
ESPFI $100Freight (applies to the 48 contiguous states and Alaska only) $260
They mislead you about both the MSRP price and shippingcharges..[:'(]
I would encourage you to talk directly to Harley Davidson and fax them a copy of your sales contract. HD is very customer focused and I'd imagine they wouldn't be too happy about one of their dealers lying about MSRP price and shipping charges. Be sure to tell them this is your first Harley purchasealso.
